| | I just got back from seeing the Pixar movie "Up". Without spoiling anything, the premise was based on a melancholy love story that got me too involved with the gloominess to fully enjoy it. The prologue got me so involved with the utter tragedy of the characters that I felt compelled to continue feeling sorry for them.
And the heavyhearted events kept on coming! If you see it, consider the beginning goals and what they end up with. Is that a happy ending, even with their smiles?
But there were plenty of good parts. I am continually impressed by the skill and art involved in creating the animated pictures. Not only were the characters and scenery rendered perfectly by computer, but the angles and layouts themselves were put together in an aesthetically pleasing way. Someone had an eye for beauty when they wrote this. Even tragic beauty.
The humor exceeded my expectations. Though a lot of it was slapstick, it was a step above what I would consider low-brow. I tried to guess the outcome of an event and be surprised along with the audience (we often laughed as one).
I would recommend it and even highly recommend it with this disclaimer: be ready for a tear-jerker and try to detach yourself from the hopelessness of life!
